Anna’s story begins like this. – When in the early 1960s my parents decided to go to Australia in search of better living conditions, my sister and I were already born, I was four years old and my sister two. – The personal history is the history of an inextricably linked territory, where the beauty of nature contrasts with the economic hardships of a generation forced to emigrate, in order not to remain entangled too long in the war between the poor that was fought every night in the lagoons, between harpoons, valley guards and eel fishers. Although Anna understands the ‘dialect’ that she heard at home (but forbidden to use by her father), she is conquered by the English language, school, friends, a new culture, a new identity, a professional project interrupted abruptly by the return home, in the middle of the adolescence. – The drama began instead when her father decided to return, overcome by nostalgia, to his hometown located in the middle of nowhere. – A wound that does not heal, goodbye to friends, to study plans for a new difficult identity, a new language without passion, a stranger to her parents’ homeland. This is Anna’s first book, a book for long thought about, which could only have two versions, in the two mother tongues that are those of Anna. She would like to convey the belief that poetry heals our soul and helps us rediscover that sensitivity towards our environment and the creatures that inhabit it.
